This week in Kauai Deep Sea Sport Fishing action, we are going to talk about our winter visitors, the Humpback whales. While the fishing has been pretty steady, with an assortment of SkipJack Tunas, and Mahi-Mahi’s this January, one of the highlights of the Fishing Trips are the shows that the whales are putting on. Here on Kauai the humpback whales are known as “Kohola”. These beautiful whales grace our waters from December - May, but are most prevalent in January and February. They come to our warm Hawaiian waters in the winter to breed and give birth their calves. There is nothing like watching these whales breach in the distance as you are fighting a massive Bull Mahi-Mahi in the fighting chair.
